Relations between aortic stiffness and left ventricular structure and function in older participants in the age, gene/environment susceptibility—Reykjavik study
-
PID: 25795761, This study observed an association between longitudinal stretch of the ascending aorta and LV structure and function in an older cohort. Greater aortic stiffness and less longitudinal stretch were associated with greater LV mass and late filling. Greater aortic work performed stretching the aorta in systole was associated with greater early filling in men and had no relation in women, suggesting a dramatic sex difference in the interaction between longitudinal aortic stretch and LV function that may relate to greater susceptibility of older women in developing HFpEF
