    • While complexes of copper(I) are often readily oxidized under air to copper(II), DBX-1 is quite stable under air and can be stored for extended periods of time under ambient conditions without appreciable degradation. We are unaware of a specific explanation for the stability of DBX-1, other than to say that its structure in the crystalline form may offer protection and improve stability. These copper centers can be oxidized under more forcing conditions, though: exposure of DBX-1 to sodium periodate does lead to oxidation of the material
