Dharmarajan K, Hsieh AF, Lin Z, et al. Diagnoses and timing of 30-day readmissions after hospitalization for heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or pneumonia. JAMA: J Am Med Assoc. 2013;309(4):355-63. This paper describes the clinical epidemiology of 30-day readmissions after hospitalization for three common cardiopulmonary conditions and finds that older patients are vulnerable to readmission from a broad spectrum of conditions for the entire month after hospital discharge.
