The contributors offer different perspectives on the utility of the regime approach.

Setting aside materialist neorealist and neoliberal views about the formation of state interests, Wendt argues that state cooperation flows instead from the social construction of collective identities.
13. Ernst Haas , "Turbulent Fields and the Theory of Regional Integration," International Organization 30 (spring 1976): 176, 183. Haas discusses problems with existing theoretical approaches, to the study of integration, given heightened interdependence. European integration, he suggests, follows a "fragmented issue linkage" model.

A relatively recent book on the prospects of the still-new African Union for improving both socioeconomic and political situations in the continent. Both the economic program, NEPAD, as well as conflict resolution mechanisms are examined.

29. Riordan Roett , ed., Mercosur: Regional Integration, World Markets (Boulder, Colo.: Lynne Rienner, 1999). A good description of the evolution, prospects, and problems of southern cone integration.
30. Ian Skeet , OPEC: Twenty-Five Years of Prices and Politics (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1988). A knowledgeable and informative outline of OPEC's evolution.
31. Ian Taylor and Karen Smith , United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) (New York: Routledge, 2007). Details the development of the UNCTAD from its heyday in the 1970s through "crisis, retreat, and reinvention."
32. Christopher R. Thomas and Juliana T. Magloire , Regionalism Versus Multilateralism: The Organization of American States in a Global Changing Environment (Norwell, Mass.: Kluwer Academic Publishers, 2000). The first author is a former assistant secretary general of the organization. This is a good if brief description of the work of the OAS as it continues a period of revitalization.
33. William T. Tow , Subregional Security Cooperation in the Third World (Boulder, Colo.: Lynne Rienner, 1990). Comparisons of five institutions, GCC, SADCC, OECS, SPF, and ASEAN.
34. Marc Williams , Third World Cooperation: the Group of 77 in UNCTAD (New York: St Martin's Press, 1991). A good analysis of the creation and persistence of the G77.
35. Peter Willetts , The Non-Aligned Movement: The Origins of a Third World Alliance (New York: Nichols Publishing, 1978). The book provides a thorough background on the movement.
