This large nationwide cohort study found an increased risk of stroke after treatment for herpes zoster: individuals who had received medication had a 127% increased risk in the first 2 weeks, 17% between 2 weeks and 1 year, and 5% after the first year. The increased risk was greatest in the youngest age group (<40 years of age).
