One may also question whether the same ground state is observed in all experiments, given that the ν = 5 2 state is observed from B = 2 T all the way up to B = 12 T (which corresponds to the range 0.7 < κ < 1.8) and is observed in both quantum wells and heterostructures, implying that the Hamiltonian varies considerably among the various experiments which have observed a ν = 5 2 plateau.
47. Most of these numerical studies also assume that the ground state is fully spin polarized. The few which do not make such an assumption, in fact, make a strong case for a spin-polarized ground state (Refs., and). However, experiments indicate that the ground state may not be polarized (Refs. and).
