This article reported on a nationally representative sample of older adults (≥ 65 years of age) regarding the co-occurrence of three chronic diseases (coronary artery disease, HF, and diabetes mellitus) and two geriatric syndromes (urinary incontinence and falls). The co-occurrence of these diseases and syndromes suggests that comprehensive care management is needed rather than focusing on a single disease or syndrome.

This was a cross-sectional study that used propensity score analysis and found that OAB was associated with use of diuretics, especially loop diuretics. There was a lack of association between diuretic use and urinary incontinence.

Arch Gerontol Geriatr 2009, 49: e85-e90. This 6-year longitudinal study examined the incidence and prevalence of urinary and fecal incontinence. Depressive mood, often found to be associated with incontinence and HF in cross-sectional studies, was found to be an independent predictor of new cases of urgency-associated urinary incontinence.
