1. Our use of the term "green IT" in this article encompasses what others term "green IS." Green IT can be defined as using technology in a greener way (e.g., virtualization, green data centers, life-cycle management for IT equipment, etc.), and green IS as using information systems to make the rest of the economy greener (e.g., smart buildings, smart grid, telecommuting, etc.).

12. Content validity ratio (CVR) analysis is a technique for testing the content validity of indicators evaluated by an expert panel. Experts are asked to evaluate the relative importance of a series of indicators, and the ratio of the panel members who answer that a given indicator is important relative to the total number of panel members gives the quantified measure of validity. An indicator is retained if its CVR exceeds the minimum allowable value, which is set according to the total number of experts composing the panel, and rejected if not.
13. The Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) is a structured technique used to determine the order of priority among complex factors and the calculation of their weights using a ratio scale. Through pairwise comparison, AHP captures the knowledge, experience and intuition of the evaluators.
