    • It is important to make a clear distinction between these MI sidebands and so-called Kelly sidebands, which have been experimentally observed in the early years of soliton fiber lasers. These two processes are by nature different since Kelly sidebands originate from the destabilization of solitons and subsequent emission of resonant dispersive waves in active fiber cavities, whereas the MI process investigated here is a four-photon mixing process and therefore has a parametric origin.
