The assessment of the spondyloarthritis international society concept and criteria for the classification of axial spondyloarthritis and peripheral spondyloarthritis: A critical appraisal for the pediatric rheumatologist
-
Burgos-Vargas R. The assessment of the spondyloarthritis international society concept and criteria for the classification of axial spondyloarthritis and peripheral spondyloarthritis: a critical appraisal for the pediatric rheumatologist. Ped Rheumatol. 2012; 10: 14. Available at http: //www.ped-rheum.com/content/10/ 1/14. This paper reviews the criteria for juvenile spondyloarthropathy proposed by the SpondyloArthritis International Society. This system groups all HLA-B27-related childhood arthritic disease together, with separate criteria for disease involving peripheral or axial joints. The author proposes that because of similar prognosis and treatment, juvenile spondyloarthropathies should be considered together as a single classification entity.

Spondyloarthritis in a pediatric population: Risk factors for sacroiliitis
-
Stoll ML, Bhore R, Dempsey-Robertson M, Punaro M. Spondyloarthritis in a pediatric population: risk factors for sacroiliitis. J Rheumatol. 2010; 37: 2402-8. This interesting study from the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and the University of Texas Southwestern studied a large cohort of juvenile spondyloarthropathy. Sacroiliitis was found in about half of 143 patients. Hip disease predicted sacroiliitis, while dactylitis was associated with an absence of sacroiliitis.
