    • 60 to describe the total thermochemical effect of the interactions of the π electron system, due to the overall conjugation, aromaticity, and anti-aromaticity. Following Dewar (M. J. S. Dewar, C. deLano, J. Am. Chem. Soc., 1969, 91, 789), the "aromatic stabilization energy is only the extra π aromatic resonance stabilization (or "π antiaromatic destabilization") describing the energy differences attributable to the increase (or decrease) of the overall π resonance energy in closed (cyclic or spherical) circuits. Note that the RE's of aromatic compounds are often much larger, than their "aromatic stabilization energies" (see Y. Mo, P. v. R. Schleyer, Chem. Eur. J., 2006, 12, 2009), but those of "anti- aromatic" compounds typically are only somewhat smaller than the RE's expected on the basis of their conjugation (see C. S. Wannere, D. Moran, N. L. Allinger, B. A. Hess Jr, L. J. Schaad, P. v. R. Schleyer, Org. Lett., 2003, 17, 2983)
