Eur Heart J 2010;31:1172-80. In this meta-analysis, it is clearly demonstrated that the risk of LASM is higher after DES implantation, compared to BMS, while LASM seems to be associated with late and very late stent thrombosis.

This study demonstrated that immediate post-intervention IVUS showing no malapposition does not guarantee an uneventful course after DES implantation.

Circulation 2011;123:2382-91. Despite being based on angiographic findings, the authors demonstrated that per-stent contrast staining (an indirect indicator of significant degree of stent malapposition) is associated with a higher incidence of target lesion revascularisation and late stent thrombosis.
