    • The description of adsorbates presented here is vastly oversimplified. For a more complete description, see M. Scheffler and C. • According to the common categorization, Rb-Si bonds are barely categorized as ionic, and Rb-Ti is called polar covalent. For the purposes of this work, one can simply think of Rb-Si bonds being slightly more "ionic in character" than Rb-Ti, leading to a slightly larger fractional charge transfer from the adatom.

    • The work function of glass is not well defined, but the band gap between the valence and conduction bands is much larger than the ionization energy of the adatoms.

    • We have also seen several areas on the surface that contribute magnetic irregularities to the potential from contaminants either in or on the substrate. Magnetic forcer, are distinguished from electric forces through application of the external electric field, which modifies perturbations from electric surface effects but not from magnetic contaminants. Magnetic contaminants are probably not intrinsic and can be avoided by using more rigorous surface preparation techniques.
