This is a well-executed, prospective study in which children with perforated appendicitis but no abscess were randomized to either immediate appendectomy or antibiotics followed by delayed appendectomy; both laparoscopic and open approaches were included, and outcomes included return to normal activity and adverse events such as intraabdominal abscess, small bowel obstruction, and unplanned readmission.
