Anderson FS, Kunin-Batson AS. Neurocognitive late effects of chemotherapy in children: the past 10 years of research on brain structure and function. Pediatr Blood Cancer. 2009;52 (2): 159-64. Young cancer survivors are at risk for chemotherapy-associated neurocognitive late effects (problems with thinking and reasoning). This paper provides a comprehensive literature review of these lateeffects caused by chemotherapy alone and discusses the neural mechanisms involved.

Health behaviors, medical care, and interventions to promote healthy living in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study Cohort
-
Nathan P, Ford J, et al. Health behaviors, medical care, and interventions to promote healthy living in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study Cohort. J Clin Oncol. 2009;27: 2663-73. Childhood cancer survivors are at risk for medical and psychosocial effects of cancer and its related therapy. This manuscript summarizes publications from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS) that have examined health behaviors, risk-based health care, and interventions to promote healthy lifestyle practices. Long-term survivors use tobacco and alcohol and have inactive lifestyles at higher rates than is ideal given their increased risk of cardiac, pulmonary, and metabolic late effects. Few survivors get regular care.

Critical issues in transition and survivorship for adolescents and young adults with cancer
-
Nathan P, Hayes-Lattine B, Sisler J, Hudson M. Critical issues in transition and survivorship for adolescents and young adults with cancer. Cancer. 2011;117: 2335-41. Cancer survivors need transitional services throughout life, which include health-related education, health surveillance and screening, management of cancerrelated complications, and psychosocial support relevant to their developmental needs. The availability of resources for survivors varies by geography, health care system, and survivor characteristics. Adolescents and young adults who receive their care outside of a pediatric cancer center have particularly limited access. This manuscript addresses the limitations in cancer center resources (along with survivor preference) and strongly suggests that the long-term care of survivors needs to be shared between the cancer centers and primary care providers in survivors' communities.
