The long-term natural history of the weekly symptomatic status of bipolar I disorder
-
Judd LL, Akiskal HS, Schettler PJ et al. The long-term natural history of the weekly symptomatic status of bipolar I disorder. Arch. Genet. Psychiatry 59, 530-537 (2002). In 146 patients with bipolar I disorder, on average, symptoms were present almost half the time during a follow-up period of more than 12 years. Depression was the most frequent symptom during this period (32%), followed by mania or hypomania (9%) and rapid cycling or mixed episodes (6%).
