33. It is important to keep Chinese investment in perspective and not to exaggerate its magnitude. In 2008 alone, ExxonMobil, Shell and BP invested roughly $20 billion each; the estimated total investments of Chinese NOCs over the 18 years of expansion up to mid-2010 amount to only US$80 billion.
