The ILI involved caloric restriction utilizing meal replacements, group and individual counseling, and specific exercise recommendtions. At 12 months, as compared to the usual care group, diabetics in the ILI arm had lost more weight, and had improved blood pressure, lipids, and diabetes control and were more likely to have had their antihypertensives, lipid altering medications and diabetes medications titrated downward.
