    • State owned enterprises and equitization in vietnam
    • Working Paper 228 (August
    • State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) continue to dominate the Vietnamese economy where the progress on equitization has been relatively limited. Equitization in Vietnam mostly targets small SOEs, while it does not address the efficiency problem with state ownership as the state typically retains a controlling share of the equitized SOEs. The Vietnamese approach with diffused ownership in SOEs and in equitized firms and little participation of strategic investors needs improvement in order to secure increased efficiency and economic growth. See Fredrik Sjöholm, "State Owned Enterprises and Equitization in Vietnam," European Institute of Japanese Studies, Working Paper 228 (August 2006), http://swopec.hhs.se/eijswp/papers/eijswp0228.pdf.
