This series evaluated the pleural fluid concentrations of three biomarkers for heart failure (BNP, NT-proBNP, and ST2) in 181 patients with pleural effusions. It demonstrated that NT-proBNP better identified patients with heart failure-related effusions than BNP, including those transudates misclassified by Light's criteria
