    • In PBDT-containing PAAm hydrogel, the apparent positive birefringence is the collective birefringence of PBDT and PAAm. Actually, when ε > 3, PAAm chains are stretched by the applied stress/stain to exhibit negative birefringence, which exceeds the strain-induced positive birefringence of PBDT at ε > 7.
