21. We used International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10), codes to identify patients' primary condition at discharge. We examined diabetes (E10-E14), hypertension (I10-I11), stroke (I63-I67, I69, and G45-G46), asthma (J45-J46), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (J40-J44), and other cardiovascular disease including angina and acute myocardial infarction (I20, I21, I50, and J81).
