Consanguineous marriages in Europe are mostly toward sixth degree of cousin marriages. However, the consanguineous marriages that we considered most problematic had been banned in Europe starting from sixteenth century.

In Russia, the Grand Duke Alexander Michailowitch married the Grand Duchess Xenie Alexandrowna, his cousin and sister of Nicholas II. Prince Henry of Prussia, brother of William II, married his cousin, a Princess of Hesse, and the Grand Duke of Hesse married his cousin, the daughter of the Duke of Saxe-Cobourg.
