56. Underthe planned economic system in China, SOEs were considered social organisations and entrusted with many social responsibilities, for instance, running schools, hospitals and kindergartens. The Taiyuan Iron and Steel Enterprise, for example, had over 20schools. Whatever functions cities had, SOEs had as well (ThePeople’s Daily, 21st September, 1999).

In the USA, an association of long-term care insurance has been set up with a view to heightening awareness among consumers for the need and benefits of owning private LTC insurance by enhancing the expertise and developing high standards of professionalism among agents, brokers and financial advisors.
