19. The selectivity of this series of compound for Gram-positive bacteria might be related to an antimicrobial mechanism specific for Gram-positive bacteria, or to their inability to penetrate the outer membrane present in Gram-negative bacteria. The characterization of the mechanism of action of these novel compounds is underway.
