    • A resting state is an undesired stable compound (i.e. the alkoxide complex) formed via the reaction of a catalyst (i.e. 1) with the product (i.e. alcohol) in a catalytic cycle. The formation of such a stable compound can deactivate the catalyst and break the cycle.
