    • Although the linear dependence of c on σp is "softened" by the terms within the square root, the limiting behavior of c with respect to σp is still preserved: c → as σp →and c →0 as σp →0. The limiting case of c = σp can only occur in the limit of infinite surface tension ( σs →) which means the apparent singularity in Eq. is always pre-empted by the membrane becoming unstable. In the limit of zero surface tension, ( σs →0 ) the critical potential →0 as there is nothing to resist the undulations introduced by the dipole-membrane coupling [Eq. ].
