The authors developed a new preoperative assessment technique using screening questionnaires. They demonstrate that this method appropriately identified assessment needs of patients and more efficiently utilized medical personnel.
8. Vaghadia H, Fowler C. Can nurses screen all outpatients? Performance of a • nurse based model. Can J Anesth 1999;46:1117-1121. This article investigated the effectiveness of using nurses for preoperative screening of patients scheduled for outpatient surgery. The authors found that such a model was effective at ruling out patients who did not need to be seen by an anesthesiologist.
