    • The assignment of a SmX phase is based on the relatively low enthalpy of the SmX-SmC transitions for 2(4) and 2(5, 11-15 kJ/mol) as compared to those of the Cr-SmC transitions for the higher homologues 37-53 kJ/mol, and the observation of recrystallization exotherms on heating the higher homologues before the Cr-SmC transitions
