Imaging for neuro-ophthalmic and orbital disease: A review
-
A literature review was performed by neuro-ophthalmology and neuroradiology experts on the results of a Medline search on neuro-ophthalmic and orbital imaging articles from 2004-2008. The article discusses the fundamentals of neuroophthalmic imaging, and summarizes the clinical ophthalmic indications and contraindications for the usage of common imaging modalities including MRI, MR angiography, MR venography, computed tomography and positron emission tomography scanning. The importance of communication between neuro-ophthalmologists and neuroradiologists is emphasized

Clinical features and natural history of acquired third, fourth, and sixth cranial nerve palsy
-
Retrospective chart review was performed on 206 patients (mean age of 48.1 years) at a single neuro-ophthalmic department presenting with acquired CN III, IV, and VI palsy. CN VI palsy occurred most frequently at 52%. Vascular disease was determined to be the most common etiology (31%) with a higher mean age of onset (64 years). After a follow-up period of 6 months, 85% of patients demonstrated partial recovery, and 68% demonstrated complete recovery (mean time to complete recovery of 3.5 months). The degree of deviation on initial examination was the only factor found to be significantly different between complete recovery and partial recovery
