The use of dual general material designations, e.g., [Visual projection + Sound recording] was proposed in International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, Committee on Cataloguing, Working Group on the International Standard Bibliographic Description for Non-Book Materials, ISBD (NBM): International Standard Bibliographic Description: Non-Book Materials (London: IFLA International Office for UBC, 1977), 14. This gmd rule was abandoned in the second edition of this work.
15. This was not a rule interpretation made by the Library of Congress. This AACR2 rule reversal was the result of a vote taken by the Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access at the American Library Association Midwinter meeting in Washington in 1977. CC:DA asked L.C. to disseminate this A.L.A. decision. It did so through its rule interpretations.
