The use of this reagent for the preparation of thiobenzophenone and thiocamphor from the corresponding ketones was first describend in 1967 by Hoffmann and Schumacher (104, A decade later, Lawesson's group comprehensively and with great success explored its suitability for the thionation of ketones 105, esters, thiolesters and amides, and finally its name Lawesson's reagent has been coined
