14. The Web portal uses Apache Cocoon running on Tomcat (a Web application server), a Postgres database, and the Apache Web server. Cocoon is a rich publishing framework that allows for user authentication, database interactions, and server-side transformations of the XML documents. In short, Cocoon can find any document in the database and transform it into a variety of displays appropriate for instruction or research.
