Swallowing motility disorders were identified by videoflouroscopy. This study found those patients treated with chemoradiotherapy to demonstrate greater impairment in swallowing over time, with fewer functional swallowers as compared with the radiotherapy group.

Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2007; 68:1289-1298. This study examines the dose-volume-effect relationships to provide optimal IMRT to reduce dosage to swallowing structures and reduce dysphagia. Higher dosages to the pharyngeal constrictors and larynx resulted in worse swallow functioning.
