This study shows that the two isoforms of Runx1 are differentially expressed in EMPs and HSCs in the early zebrafish embryo. Moreover the authors established two different transgenic lines that reproduce these two patterns of expression, which will be of great interest to study the different signals involved in EMPs versus HSCs specification.
