This paper describes a large and prospective study comparing, for the first time, the overall rates of survival between HCV-monoinfected and HIV/HCV-coinfected intravenous drug abusers. Although AIDS-related mortality decreased after 1997, liver-related death remained stable in HIV/HCV-coinfected patients and was higher compared with HCV-monoinfected patients. (Pubitemid 351172190)

    • abstract 914 This analysis is the first to document that antiviral therapy with tenofovir for the treatment of HBV in HIV/HBV-coinfected patients results in improvements of liver fibrosis and inflammation. Overall, 141 patients were followed either with fibroscan (n = 141) or paired liver biopsies (n = 38). After 12, 24 and 36 months of follow-up, a significant decrease in liver fibrosis was observed in patients with advanced fibrosis, whereas patients with minimal fibrosis at baseline remained stable
