Modelling the impact of antibiotic use and infection control practices on the incidence of hospital-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus: a time-series analysis. J Antimicrob Chemother 2008; 62:593-600. Authors built a multivariate ARIMA (time-series analysis) model to relate MRSA incidence with antibiotic use and infection control practices. Temporal variations in MRSA incidence followed temporal variations in the use of fluoroquinolones, third-generation cephalosporins, macrolides and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid.

Kim JY, Sohn JW, Park DW, et al. Control of extended-spectrum {beta}-lactamase-producing Klebsiella pneumonite using a computer-assisted management program to restrict third-generation cephalosporin use. J Antimicrob Chemother 2008; 62:416-421. Ambidirectional intervention study. Hospital-wide restriction of third-generation cephalosporin use was integrated into a preexisting computerized antibiotic prescription program. The proportion of ESBL-producing K. pneumoniae, imipenem- or piperacillin/tazobactam- resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii isolates decreased significantly over the study period.
