Using Principal Component Analysis to analyze the six preference questions reduced these three variables to two factors (with rotation): preference for doctor visits right away, and preference for specialty care and tests. Substituting these two factors for the three preference variables in the subsequent linear regression analyses yielded substantively identical results.
