    • The ESEEM results were highly reproducible, indicating that the freezing procedure was robust. The experiments with CT were carried out with the D 2O/glycerol-d3 mixtures, while experiments with spin-labeled CDs were carried out with the D2O/glycerol-d 8 mixtures. To compare the results obtained in different solvent mixtures, we recorded ESEEM spectra of CT alone and in the presence of 10 -2 M β-CD in both solvent mixtures. In D2O/grycerol- d8 the ESEEM parameter k(2H) for these mixtures was 0.48 and 0.35, respectively. This corresponds to 73% 2H accessibility upon complexation, in perfect agreement with the data for D 2O/glycerol-d8 (75, The ESEEM results for the two solvent mixtures can therefore be directly compared using the ratio of k(2H) values for CT in both solvents 0.71/0.48, 1.48 as a correction f
