Contact investigations as a means of detection and timely treatment of persons with infectious multidrug-resistant tuberculosis
-
Bayona J, Chavez-Pachas AM, Palacios E, et al. Contact investigations as a means of detection and timely treatment of persons with infectious multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. Int J Tuberc Lung Dis 2003; 7 (Suppl 3):S501-S509. This study showed that contact tracing of patients with MDR tuberculosis resulted in identification of 8% multidrug resistance in close contacts. Improved outcome was associated with individualized therapy, and knowledge of patterns of resistance. The results are elegantly discussed.
