One could add to this list the Iranian constitutional revolution of 1905, the electoral rejection of the Pinochet regime in Chile in 1988, the protests that brought down the Suharto dictatorship in Indonesia in 1998, and the negotiated ending of the apartheid regime in South Africa in 1994. The Mosaddeq revolution in Iran in 1953 and the Allende victory in Chile in 1973 could also have become early color revolutions, but they were rapidly overturned by U.S.-supported military coups.
