    • Equation 3 allows calculation of the β factor for Fe isotope fractionation between a given Fe isotope and the 57Fe isotope. For example, m, m54Fe ≈ 54 atomic units (au) and Δm, mFe54, mFe57 ≈ -3 au in the case of 57Fe→54Fe isotope substitution. However, in fact this does not impose a limitation on the application of Eq. 2 to Fe isotope fractionation, because the following equation holds: ln m1/m2β, lnm1/57β, lnm2/57β. Here, the m1/m2β notation is used for the β factor relating to m2Fe→m1Fe isotope substitution. In particular, ln57/54β, ln54/57β; ln56/54β, ln57/54β ln57/56β. See (18) for details
