The relative stereochemistry in 23a,b has been tentatively assigned as indicated consistent with initial nucleophilic addition from the metal-free face of the cyclohexadienyl ligand followed by stereoselective [3,3] sigmatropic rearrangement. Attempts to definitively establish the stereochemistry via 2D NMR (NOESY) were thwarted by the absence of diagnostic correlations.
