Hsiao-t'ung Fei and Chih-I Chang (see Earthbound China, p. 260) report in their study in Yunnan that uxorilocal marriages occur more frequently in better-class farmer families. They reason that it might be because women there take greater part in farm management, so that for the continuity of the family enterprise there (was) greater interest in trying to retain the elder able girls in the house.
