Excitation of mesoscopic magnets with a uniform microwave field gives rise to finite wave-vector momentum transfer via (i) static and dynamic pinning of spins at the geometrical edges (Ref.), (ii) an inhomogeneous internal field (Ref.), and (iii) reciprocal lattice vectors if a periodic array of magnets is considered (Ref.).

As HDem varies strongly and takes many different values at the edges, forced precession can occur near the holes at eigenfrequencies corresponding to center modes. This is observed in Fig. 3.

We note that the soft mode behavior of mode 0Deg-1, reaching a minimum frequency around H=100mT for lattice 1, is due to the large and negative demagnetization field value at the outer edge of a hole. We find HDem -100mT in Fig. 1. For a larger hole diameter, e.g. in lattice 4, HDem H and as expected one cannot observe a soft mode behavior at high fields.
