    • Antipsychotics for delirium
    • This review compared efficacy and adverse events of haloperidol in comparison to other antipyschotics. The conclusions were that there is no evidence that low dose haloperidol has different efficacy or greater frequency of adverse events in comparison with the atypical antipsychotics olanzapine and risperidone; however, this is based on small studies, CD005594

    • Seitz DP, Gill SS, van Zyl LT. Antipsychotics in the treatment of delirium: a systematic review. J Clin Psychiatry 2007; 68:11-21. This review concluded there is limited evidence from uncontrolled studies that supports the use of low-dose, short-term treatment of delirium with some anti-psychotics and that well designed clinical trials are required in this area. The review included a total of 14 studies (nine single agent studies and five comparison trials), met inclusion criteria, studying a number of medications including haloperidol, chlorpromazine, olanzapine, risperidone, and quetiapine with no study including a placebo comparison to account for spontaneous improvements in delirium seen with all agents.
