1 The highest ratio of either isomer in the corresponding pss is obtained at a wavelength at which the quotient of the corresponding extinction coefficients is maximized. The best wavelength can be evaluated, for example, by dividing the UV/vis spectra of the trans-isomer by the spectra of the cis-/trans-mixture in the pss. The maximum of the resulting function indicates the optimal irradiation wavelength for the trans- to cis-photoisomerisation.
