    • We have used up to 16464 k-points for the Brillouin-zone sums, 121 G-vectors in the matrices and up to 100 bands in the sums over unoccupied bands for the polarizability. In these sums we also added a small imaginary part of 0.01 eV to the frequency. Our results are fully converged with respect to the Brillouin zone sampling for frequencies above 1 eV. An investigation of low-frequency (infrared) plasmons in the energy-loss spectrum of this semimetal [see P. Laitenberger and R. E. Palmer, Phys. Rev. Lett. 76, 1952 (1996)] would require an improved treatment of intraband transitions, and is beyond the scope of the present work.

    • The use of finer k-point meshes would allow us to have a larger availability of q vectors and, consequently, a closer correspondence with the q vectors studied experimentally. For a few representative cases where we did calculate the dielectric functions on a finer mesh, we obtained very similar line shapes.
