    • The presentation of d0 in Figure 4 may seem to correspond to the A-A intermolecular distance. This is because the presentation of d0 in Figure 4 is simplified, in fact, to create an AB interface we need to separate the A phase in vacuum to create two A, vacuum interfaces (in which case d 0 is indeed the A-A intermolecular distance, d 0AA or just dAA) and also separate the B phase in vacuum to create two B-vacuum interfaces (in which case d 0 is the B-B intermolecular distance, d BB, and bring the A-vacuum and B-vacuum interfaces together to create the AB interface. Yet, as Israelachvili has shown see eqs 15.2 and 15.3 in ref 16, the above simplified approach is formally the same.
