The authors reviewed the outcomes of 79 eyes in 70 patients who underwent IOFB removal during recent military conflicts. All patients underwent primary globe closure followed by delayed IOFB removal without any cases of endophthalmitis. Systemic and topical antibiotics were used in most of the cases described.

Fine et al. reviewed their outcomes of 77 cases of retinal surgery performed with a 23-gauge TSV system for a variety of indications including epiretinal membrane, macular hole, nonclearing vitreous hemorrhage, tractional and rhegmatogenous retinal detachments. Twenty-three-gauge TSV was safe and effective for these indications and results were comparable to previously published results seen in 25-gauge TSV systems.
